DIGITAL MARKETING IN E-COMMERCE

“Strive not to be a success, but rather of value”. This quote by Albert Einstein holds true even in today’s day and age. We are in an age where digitalization is the new norm of the world order. The dot-com bubble has opened the world to the world of internet. This has indeed opened up business to pool of opportunities and customers to tap into. Digital marketing is basically using digital tools to gain customer base and convert them into the future clients with enticing and attractive offerings.
In the 1990’s the e-commerce started to take shape once the dot-com bubble started. A prime example of this can be seen in the way Amazon functioned. In 1995, it sold its first book and after two decades, Americans roughly spend $341 billion on its website alone. This tells how far e-commerce websites have come. Most of the companies which are into serving the needs of the customer must have a website with proper detailing on its products and services in the present age. Over the course of the last decade alone, the e-commerce sales have grown by almost twice the initial sales generated. Innovations by major players in the market have also played a hand.

As of now, there are more than 8,00,000 stores online. This alone underlines the importance of e-commerce and its huge potential on the future. Earlier, most of the players in e-commerce were focused only on websites. But, the huge boom in smartphone market and its huge potential have forced their hands into developing apps customized for the mobile devices. So, in the future mobile commerce is something which is going to increase exponentially as mobile commerce sales is expected to grow at a rate of 2.5x faster than that of regular commercial sales.
